Project 10:42 – Water Purification

Project 10:42 (Matthew 10:42)

Collecting water for the family from polluted streams

Project 10:42 (Matthew 10:42)

According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water. At any given time almost half the people in the developing world suffer from one or more water borne preventable diseases and as a result more than half the world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from water related diseases.

Thousands of people throughout the world die every day due to sickness caused by contaminated water— 90% of these are children under 5. Knowledge of inexpensive water purification methods could have saved their lives.

Every LEAMIS team provides workshops on water filtration systems to remove harmful parasites, how to use a chlorination unit, and on SODIS (Solar Disinfection.)

The SODIS method meets the needs for individuals and families. The chlorination unit processes the larger quantities of water needed by churches, orphanages, schools, and hospitals.

Please see the pages on SODIS and the filtration and chlorination system for more details.
